Beyond UML: Advanced Systems Delivery with Objects, Components, Patterns and Middleware

This book was written to provide students and practitioners of information systems a concise and practical guide to using advanced, up to date techniques for effectively delivering systems quickly. Systems that meet business needs, are aligned with corporate goals, are robust, scalable and maintainable. Systems that take advantage of modern technologies and delivery options including objects, components, middleware, patterns, visual construction, distributed objects and Internet and mobile delivery.

The Unified Modeling Language (UML), techniques from pioneering object work at Xerox PARC, the Gesellschaft fur Matematik und Datenverarbeitung (GMD) in Germany and James Odell are used as sources for valuable ideas and methods. However, the text does not blindly follow UML, but selectively uses what works and extends where there are gaps.

The method presented has been in development for some 10 years and has been taught in academia and commerce alike to more than a thousand analysts and developers. It uniquely and seamlessly spans high level business modeling and scoping, requirements analysis, logical and physical design, and mapping to multilayer delivery architectures. It has proven effective and efficient.
