Welcome EDGY Practitioner                              

This is version 0.8 of EDGY in Enterprise Value Architect (EVA) from Inspired.org. We hope you find this product easy, intuitive, and highly productive!

Note for evaluators

You will be using a shared sandbox version of EDGY-EVA. We encourage the shared sandbox approach so you can see a larger set of existing architecture content which helps to get a feel for content in the tool. This means there will be content in the tool that others have created as part of their evaluation that you can see (and modify) and vice-versa.

EA Tool Fundamentals

For those new to an enterprise architecture tool there are a few terms used in this introduction to be familiar with:

Dashboard: In EDGY-EVA this is the familiar graphical representation of the EDGY framework (the Facet Circles, Icon Types, and Relationship Lines). This graphical representation is the main navigation tool you will use in EDGY-EVA to explore and record architecture content.

Type: This is a concept such as Process, Capability, and Product. These are the kinds of things that will be found in an enterprise and are defined by the EDGY standard. They appear as icons in the EDGY-EVA tool Dashboard, and you will select them to explore and create new architecture content.

Instance/ItemThese represent the information /objects (architecture content) you will record about your enterprise, classified according to the Type. So, you will record actual processes, capabilities, and products. Instances appear in lists and individually in editors where details about them can be viewed and modified.

Finding your way around

The map on the left provides navigation:

  • Click on the Enterprise Design with EDGY heading to go to the main EDGY method description on the web

  • The Read Me arrow brings you here

  • Clicking on a facet heading in a bubble (Identity, Architecture, Experience) takes you to a canvas where you can work with architecture content of types relevant to the facet. Click the Dashboard menu to come back to the map

  • Click on the icons to list items of relevant object types. When the list appears, click on an item to see its details, edit, relate or delete the item (burger bar menu)

  • Click on the text near an icon to see details about that type in EDGY

  • The people, outcome, activity and object icons and text work the same way

  • The tools below the circle picture (Reports, Models, Custom Views) provide access to reports and other visualizations that will help you convey understanding of the enterprise and how you will recommend and manage enterprise change
